Research areas include U.S. foreign policy, Chinese foreign policy, international security and development. Author of A Diplomat's Inside Story of America (Jiang Su People¡¯s Publishing LTD, Nanjing, 2012), and The Rise of China and the Transition of East Asia Order: Shaping and Expanding the Shared Interests (Peking University Press, Beijing, 2007). Xu Jian |
Vice President and Senior Research Fellow at China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), and director of the CIIS Academic Council. He enjoys the special allowance granted by the State Council of the People¡¯s Republic of China. Dr. Xu authored over 300 academic essays and research reports, edited one monograph, and compiled some 10 monographs together with other academics. From 1999 to 2008, he took such administrative posts as director for strategic studies, CIIS and Vice President of CIIS successively. In 2006, Dr. Xu was selected as State-level Candidate for the New Century Talents Project sponsored by the Ministry of Personnel, P.R. China. From 2008 to 2010, he served as Counselor in the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations and Alternate Deputy for China. After that, he moved to Moscow and took his new post as Minister Counselor in the Chinese Embassy in Russia and worked there until 2012. Dr. Xu received his doctorate in Law from University of Bristol (U.K.) in 1993. |
Rong Ying |
Dr. RONG Ying, Vice President and Senior Research Fellow. He had previously served as Deputy Director for South Asian, Middle Eastern and African Studies, Director for International Exchange, Director for International Strategic Studies, and Director for American Studies at CIIS from 1999 to 2007. From 1993 to 1997, he served as the Chinese Embassy in the United Republic of Tanzania as Third Secretary and as Minister-Councilor at the Chinese Embassy in Japan from 2011 to 2016.
Dr. Rong got his MA in English from Beijing Normal University and his PhD from Peking University. He was a visiting scholar at the Bush School for Government and Public Service, Texas A & M University, U.S. from April to October 2000. |
Dong Manyuan |
Vice President and of CIIS, Senior Research Fellow. After he graduated from graduate school in August 1987, Mr. Dong joined Division of South Asian, Middle Eastern and African Studies of CIIS. Later he was Deputy Director and Director of the division. From 1993-1997, he served as second secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt. From 1999 to 2002, he was first secretary and Director of the Political Office of Chinese Embassy in Turkey. His research areas cover issues on Middle East, and ethnic and religious issues. |

Mr. Yang Yi graduated from Beijing University with a Master Degree in history. He joined the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) in 1997 and has been the editor of International Studies, Deputy Director & Director of the Secretariat of China National Committee, Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP China), Director of the Office of International Exchange. He worked as Vice-Consul for Political & Press Affairs in Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles from 2000-2004. |
